First-Line Friday: The Inheritance by Michael Phillips

Welcome to First-Line Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

The book I’m featuring today is:

The Inheritance

{Secrets of the Shetlands, Book 1}

by Michael Phillips

And a line from the first chapter {no, not the very first line today ๐Ÿ™‚ } is:

Earthly eyes do not always perceive eternal merit. Even the tiniest of these [birds] had worth for those who saw them as creatures imagined into being out of God’s fathering heart. The most insignificant of creatures – both birds and boys – had stories to tell.

I have been wanting to read this newer series of Michael Phillips for some (seemingly!) long while now, so I was so glad when a friend said that she had it. (Thanks, Amanda! ๐Ÿ™‚ ) I’m only about 70 pages in – It’s one of those lovely, long books to get lost in ๐Ÿ™‚ – and I just love it so much – the intensely interwoven story, the lifelike characters, the setting that you can nearly see and smell and feel. It’s a contemporary novel with the feeling of a historical. I am actually reading slower than usual so that I don’t finish it too quickly. It’s that good! Look for a review perhaps in the near future, friends.

Now, it’s your turn! What’s the first line of your current book – or the one nearest to you? Or let me know – do you have a favorite book or series of Michael Phillips (He’s written a lot!)?
Then head on over to find out what first-lines these other First-Line-Friday folks are sharing today:

    Wow. Love it!

I’ve got the first line from Janet Ferguson’s new release, Magnolia Storms, on my blog today, but I’m going to share the first line from my current read: Many Sparrows, by Lori Benton (Oh. My. Word! โค๏ธ )

“Jeremiah Ring had witnessed death as often as the next man on the Allegheny frontier, but in all his thirty years he had encountered no deaths more dismaying than those confronting him now.”

It feels wrong, somehow, to follow that up with ‘have a good weekend’, but I hope you do! ?

Many Sparrows keeps popping up everywhere with such great recommendations! I’m going to have to read it at some point!
Hope you’re having a great weekend, too.

Happy Friday! My first line is from A Christmas to Remember by Linda Brooks Davis:

    1908 4 days until Christmas
“The line of delicate stitches blurred to a crimson smudge.”

  • Rebecca

Looks like a great read with a great first line!

I’m sharing about “The League and the Lantern” by Brian Wells over at my blog today, but the closest book to me (which is on my Kindle at the moment) is “All of You” by Sarah Monzon.

Present Day, 100 Miles off the Coast of Virginia

Lieutenant Michael “Finch” Carrington pulled up the zipper of his green flight suit and stared at the mass on the opposite rack.

I haven’t read Sarah Monzon yet, but her books have been recommended to me – I’ll have to add them to the (ever-growing!) TBR!
Have a wonderful weekend, Rebecca – So glad you stopped by! ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s a great line! I’ve read and enjoyed several books from Michael Phillips. It had been several years since I’ve read one of his books. I’ll have to watch for this one!
    Have a wonderful weekend!

It is really good so far, Trisha! Slow-moving but not boring – oh, just really delightful! I hope you get a chance to read it! ๐Ÿ™‚
      Thanks for stopping by!

Michael Phillips is an excellent writer, but he always has lots of description and long sentences!

I’m sharing from Jewel of the Stars by Adam David Collings on my blog today, but I’m currently reading Uncharted Hope by Keely Brooke Keith. Here’s the first line:

At half past nine, boots scuffed the pavestones outside the medical cottage, followed by a rapid-fire knock.

I’m looking forward to reading it!

I think (?) that I grabbed Uncharted Hope when it was free a little while ago – Though I haven’t read it yet, I love the premise of that series, from what I’ve heard. Happy reading! ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s the third one in this series, Heather ~ Ah, I admit, I’ve already sneaked a peek at the ending! ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you enjoy it!
